What waited beyond

There are places that seem to exist at the edge of the visible world.

Places where myth, ritual, faith and everyday life are woven together so tightly that their boundaries begin to dissolve. The images in this work were born within such a place, yet they are not ultimately about the place itself.

They are about the experience of remaining.

The experience of staying present before something that cannot be fully understood.

During this journey, I found myself confronted with images and experiences that at times fascinated me and at others unsettled me. There were moments when I felt I was approaching something familiar, and others when I found myself standing before something impenetrable. The more I tried to understand what was happening around me, the more I realized that the real journey was not an external one, but an inner one.

The people who appear in these photographs do not function as protagonists in a narrative. They are closer to figures standing on a threshold: between the familiar and the unknown, certainty and doubt, fear and acceptance. A pilgrim. A child. A priest. A hand carrying fire. A solitary presence beside the water.

Transformation is never shown directly. It exists in gestures, pauses and moments of attention. Fire returns again and again as a reminder that every passage requires something to be left behind.

This work does not attempt to explain what lies beyond the threshold.

It simply remains there, in the moment before the next step.

Looking toward what waited beyond.
